Strength Intensification — 4 Weeks

Load climbs and volume falls across three weeks on squat, bench, deadlift and press, then week four tapers and tests a 3-rep max.

This block follows an accumulation phase — it does not work as an entry point, because it assumes you already carry the volume and tissue that a hypertrophy block builds. Weeks 1 to 3 cut set volume and push top-set intensity from roughly 80 to 90 percent, with back-off work holding just enough volume to maintain. Week 4 strips the assistance work out and tests a 3-rep max on the two main lifts. It sets up either a power realisation block or a return to accumulation, depending on whether the goal is expression or more tissue. Do not run it twice in a row.

IntensificationWeeks 1–3

Push top-set load week to week while volume drops, so the nervous system meets heavier bars without accumulating the fatigue of a volume block.

  1. MondayLower Body A — Squat FocusSquat first, everything else is support. Rest 4 min before the top set.Strength · 65 min
  2. TuesdayUpper Body A — Horizontal Press and PullBench top set, then rows at fixed load.Strength · 60 min
  3. WednesdayRestNo lifting. Walking is fine.
  4. ThursdayDeadlift DayOne top set only. Do not chase a second attempt.Strength · 65 min
  5. FridayUpper Body B — Vertical Press and PullPress top set. Keep chins submaximal.Strength · 60 min
  6. SaturdayEasy 30–40 min walk or bikeConversational pace.
  7. SundayRest

PROGRESSIONTop set moves 80 percent × 5 in week 1, 85 percent × 3 in week 2, 90 percent × 2 in week 3, off your most recent tested max. Back-off sets drop from 4 to 3 to 2 at 10 percent below the top set. If a top set exceeds RPE 9, hold that week's percentage and repeat the week — do not move up on a grind.

Taper and TestWeek 4

Drop volume sharply so the heavy work of weeks 1 to 3 expresses itself, then test a 3-rep max on squat and deadlift with full rest between the two.

  1. MondayLower Body A — Squat FocusWork to a single at 85 percent. Stop there. No back-offs.Strength · 65 min
  2. TuesdayRest
  3. WednesdayUpper Body A — Horizontal Press and PullBench to a comfortable single, two light row sets, done.Strength · 60 min
  4. ThursdayRestSleep is the priority the night before testing.
  5. FridayDeadlift DayTest day. Build in singles to a 3-rep max. Two attempts maximum.Strength · 65 min
  6. SaturdayFull Body MobilityEasy. Nothing that creates soreness.Mobility · 30 min
  7. SundayRest

PROGRESSIONMonday and Wednesday are openers only: work up to 85 percent for a single and stop. Friday tests a 3-rep max on the deadlift, with squat tested the following Monday if you are continuing into another block. No assistance work all week. If bar speed on the 85 percent opener is visibly slow, cancel the test and take the week as a deload.
