Strength Block — 16 Weeks

Sixteen weeks to a new squat, bench and deadlift max. Five weeks of volume, five of heavy work, a deload, then five weeks of low-rep peaking.

LENGTH

SESSIONS
4 per week

A full strength block for a lifter with a working squat, bench and deadlift who wants those three numbers higher in four months. Weeks 1 to 5 use higher reps and more assistance work to build the tissue and positions that heavy lifting needs. Weeks 6 to 10 move to sets of 3 to 5 at 85 percent and above, with assistance work cut back hard. Week 11 is a deload. Weeks 12 to 16 are singles and doubles at competition-style setup, with volume dropping every week until the test. Assistance exercises are chosen to fix the weak point in each lift and change at every phase.

PROGRESSION5 sets of 5 at 72 to 78 percent on the main lift of each day, plus two assistance exercises at 3 sets of 10. Add 2.5 percent to the main lift each week for four weeks; week 5 repeats week 4's load with one set removed. Rest 3 minutes on main lifts, 90 seconds on assistance.

IntensificationWeeks 6–10

Move into the loads that actually build maximal strength. Sets get shorter and heavier, assistance work is cut to what directly supports the three lifts.
