HOW TO DO IT
  1. 01Step one foot back about two to three feet, back foot turned in around 45 degrees, hips squared forward.
  2. 02Lengthen the spine and hinge forward over the front leg, keeping both legs straight but not locked.
  3. 03Place the opposite hand on a block outside or inside the front foot.
  4. 04Rotate the ribcage toward the front leg and reach the top arm upward.
  5. 05Hold five breaths with an even spine, then come up and repeat on the other side.
COACHING CUES
  1. 01Square the back hip forward before you twist.
  2. 02Lengthen first, rotate second.
  3. 03Use a tall block — height buys you the twist.
COMMON MISTAKES
  1. 01Letting the back hip swing open, which turns a spinal twist into a hip rotation and shortcuts the work.
  2. 02Rounding the back to reach the floor, which loses the thoracic rotation the pose is built around.
  3. 03Standing on a stance that is too long, which makes squared hips impossible and strains the back hamstring.
