Machine Chest Press
A fixed-path horizontal press that removes the balance demand so the chest can be taken close to failure safely. Good for sets of 10-15, especially without a spotter.
- 01Set the seat so the handles sit level with the mid-chest.
- 02Sit with the back flat against the pad and the feet planted.
- 03Take the handles and set the shoulder blades down and back.
- 04Press out to nearly straight arms without letting the shoulders roll forward.
- 05Return under control until you feel a stretch across the chest, then press again.
- 01Chest tall, shoulders back.
- 02Slow on the way back.
- 03Stop just short of lockout.
- 01Seat set too low or too high — the press angle stops matching the chest fibres you are trying to load.
- 02Shoulders rolling forward at the end of the press — the front delt takes over and the chest gets a shorter range.
- 03Letting the weight stack slam on the return — the eccentric is where most of the growth stimulus lives.
Note: Reference material, not a prescription. Load, volume and whether this movement suits you at all depends on your assessment — if something hurts, stop and get it looked at.
